AFPC/NCEA Webinar- A Year in the Life of a Catholic School Music Teacher: Resources and Repertoire for the School and the Liturgical Calendar

This webinar will outline a planning process for the School and Liturgical Year. Using the School Year as a guide, Ms. Fleming-Atwood will cover topics such as: repertoire selection for specific seasons of the Church Year, resources for Christmas and Pageant Passion Plays and inspiring traditions in the Catholic School and Parish. Grade level curriculum and lesson/rehearsal planning will be discussed. In addition, resources for teachers/conductors to help maintain healthy vocal technique/hygiene will be provided.

Suzanne Fleming-Atwood has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from the Catholic University of America. She is the full-time music teacher at Christ Our King-Stella Maris Catholic School, where she directs 4 choirs (grades 3-8), teaches General Music (grades 1-8), and presents an annual fully-staged musical. 

For 8 years, Mrs. Atwood served as an adjunct voice faculty-member at the College of Charleston, where she also taught Music Theory Lab and Vocal Diction. In 2008, Mrs. Atwood performed as a Young Artist with the Orchestra of St. Luke's at Carnegie Hall under the baton of Ton Koopman. She has also twice performed the role of Gretel in Charleston Symphony Orchestra productions of Hansel and Gretel, and she has performed frequently with Chamber Music Charleston. Mrs. Atwood studied Opera and Voice for one year at La Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, Italy as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. Mrs. Atwood is a sought after voice teacher and choral clinician and her students are selected for National and Regional Honor Choirs each year.
